Building Solidarity Beyond the Workplace.
It is important for union members to volunteer in their communities because it helps build solidarity beyond the workplace and shows that unions are committed to the broader well-being of society. By engaging in community initiatives, union members can advance values such as equity, fairness, and mutual aid, principles that align with both labor and social justice movements.

OSSTF Brock University Support Staff is proud to participate in this year’s CIBC Run for the Cure, and we need your support to make it a success!
There are many ways to get involved:
- Share the word: spread awareness by telling friends, family, and colleagues.
- Join our team: sign up and help raise vital funds for breast cancer research.
- Donate: every dollar counts, and your contribution brings us closer to our goal.
- Cheer us on: come out on October 5 and show your support in person!
Team Goal: $2,500

OSSTF Brock University Support Staff is proud to support Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold.
The campaign in 2022 collected 1,800 pounds of non-perishable food — valued at $5,778 based on the average cost of food per pound — as well as roughly $1,000 in monetary donations. As part of a separate campaign to raise enough money to help Community Care feed 100 families, the OSSTF also collected $2,650 in online donations. (see here for more information).

Did You Know?
1 in 5 people who menstruate are likely to experience period poverty this year. For those facing gender-based violence, accessing menstrual products is often an overlooked need when seeking safety and support.
According to our 2024 Member Mapping Survey, 68 out of 83 respondents (over 80%) identified as women or genderfluid/genderqueer. It’s clear that as a membership, we understand both the cost and the importance of menstrual products.
That’s why we collected menstrual products at the 2025 AGM to support individuals accessing services at Gillian’s Place. A big thank you to everyone who donated! Together we collected 17 packages of menstrual products (or $114.50 before tax).
