A Small Square, A Big Impact

As part of Mental Health Week 2026, Brock University is proud to host Caring Squares: Crochet for a Cause—a meaningful, hands-on initiative that brings creativity, connection, and compassion together.

This Wellness Week, we’re inviting experienced members of the Brock community to come together for a cozy lunchtime activity: crafting granny squares that will be stitched into warm, comforting quilts for students living in residence.

These handmade blankets are more than just fabric—they’re a reminder that no one is alone.

Why Mental Health Matters

Mental health is an essential part of overall well-being. For students balancing academic pressures, social changes, and often being away from home for the first time, maintaining mental wellness can be challenging.

Feelings of isolation or homesickness are common—especially for international and first-year students. Initiatives like Caring Squares create opportunities to:

  • Build a sense of belonging
  • Encourage meaningful connection
  • Promote mindfulness through creative activity
  • Foster a supportive campus culture

By participating, you’re not just crafting—you’re contributing to a community that prioritizes care, empathy, and mental wellness.

Why Wellness Week at Brock?

Brock University’s focus on Wellness Week reflects a growing commitment to supporting the whole student experience. Academic success is deeply connected to emotional and mental well-being, and creating space for community-driven initiatives helps:

  • Reduce stigma around mental health
  • Encourage open conversations
  • Provide accessible ways to engage in self-care
  • Strengthen community bonds across campus

Caring Squares embodies these goals by blending creativity with compassion.
