President’s Monthly Update
Over the past few weeks, we’ve started to see the real impact of the new administrative model take shape across campus.
The changes are showing up in very real ways. With fewer people available to do the work, responsibilities are being reassigned, and expectations are seemingly increasing across the board. Many of you are being asked to take on duties that extend beyond your original roles, often without clear direction or support. The pressure this creates is significant, and it’s being felt across units.
I want to be clear—this isn’t sustainable, and it’s not something we should quietly absorb.
One of the biggest concerns we’re hearing from you right now is workload. If your workload is becoming unmanageable, please reach out to me, or an executive member directly. You’re not alone in feeling this, and it’s important that we identify where the pressure points are so we can address them properly.
At the same time, one of the most important things you can do right now is document your work. If you are being asked to take on duties outside of your job description, write it down, if you need a notebook let me know and I will deliver it. This information is critical for when we move through job evaluation. If the work has changed, the job should reflect it.
Please keep track of:
- New tasks or responsibilities
- Increases in workload or volume
- Any work that falls outside your current classification
This isn’t about saying no to supporting students or helping your teams—we all take pride in the work we do. But it is about making sure that work is visible, valued, and properly accounted for.
Nominations for union executive positions are now open.
This is your opportunity to get involved and help shape the direction of our union. The strength of our local comes from members stepping up—bringing forward concerns, supporting colleagues, and ensuring we have a strong, unified voice at the table.
If you’ve ever thought about getting more involved, now is the time. If you have questions about what’s involved in a role, don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re always happy to talk about it and will be having an info session on the executive in the coming weeks.
We know this is a challenging period. There’s uncertainty, increased pressure, and real impacts on our day-to-day work. But what continues to stand out is how members are supporting each other and speaking up.
We’ll continue to advocate, push for clarity, and to hold the employer accountable—but we can’t do it without you.
In solidarity,
Brad
